Located on the live and historical campus of Trinity College Dublin, the demolition of Oisín House was part of a site redevelopment undertaken by TCD. The development entailed the construction of a new block which would include student accommodation and other student facilities.
The main structure to be demolished was a 6-storey building over basement composed of reinforced concrete with a 3 storey extension attached to a listed building known as the Print House.
Initially all asbestos material was stripped and disposed of off-site, this included asbestos slates, gaskets, rope etc. A general soft strip of the building was then carried out in preparation for mechanical demolition.
Demolition then proceeded by high reach excavator using various cutter crusher/muncher type attachments. Isolation works were carried out regarding the Print House to ensure no damage would arise to the listed building.
All rubble was processed on site with all non-concrete elements extracted and recycled where possible. The remaining clean concrete was then crushed on site and used as a piling mat for the main contract works.
